One of the best things about living in Montreal is the fact that there is always something new to discover. Throughout my entire life, I have been in awe with the majestic Saint-Joseph's Oratory situated on Queen Mary Road. Just looking at it inspires awe. I've entered this building countless times, but it wasn’t until recently that I found about this magical hidden garden that exists on the property.
Although this garden is located in the city, the serenity and privacy allow you to escape to a place that feels like nowhere else on the island.
The space includes a fountain that is tucked away on the east side of the building. When walking out of the Oratory, we often leave from the same path we entered. However, if you exit from the opposite side, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of this phenomenal garden.
I'm not going to lie, it is a bit of a walk but the second you see the glory of this hidden gem, you won't even remember the trek it took you to get there.
This picturesque location gives the illusion that you have entered a fairytale set in Europe — it is simply spectacular.
This lovely garden is named the “Way of the Cross.” It was designed in 1942 by Frederick Todd, who is well-known for his expertise in landscape architecture. Todd did a fantastic job by adding this small slice of paradise to Montreal.
As you can see from the pictures, this location is ideal for a photo-shoot, a proposal, or a perfect spot to get some alone time. Whatever it is you are searching for, this enchanted and heavenly spot will give you the peace of mind that us city folk all so desperately crave.
Saint Joseph's Oratory garden is at its peak throughout the months of fall as the foliage decorates the environment with its flamboyant palette of colours.
So my fellow Montrealers, next time you are in the area or want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, why not go take a peek at one of Montreal's most hidden treasures?
Not only will this secret garden excite your visual and spiritual senses, but it will also give you a killer workout, which is just a bonus!
