Themarket officially kicked off its winter celebrations this weekend to great fanfare with a reported 6000 people attending the launch party and a record amount of people taking part in the giant raclette party.
Only in its fourth year, the market has become a Montreal Christmas favourite. And it's no wonder why.
Every weekend from November 29 to December 22, the Atwater market dresses up like a Christmas village with wooden kiosks from local artisans and gourmets, lights, bonfires, and decorations that Santa would be proud of.
And of course, one can't forget the "magical" heated yurt, hot chocolate, and spiced mulled wine that's available.
At this past weekend opening, there was live music and Christmas tales, a stop in from Santa himself and even a visit from everyone's favourite Instagrammer,.
As it is every weekend, admission is completely free. And there is always something planned like free music shows, fire breathing acts, or even the more wholesome visits from Olaf.
Take a look at the photos below that Instagrammers took of the grand opening of the market. Even if you missed out, you still have three more weekends to stop by before it closes for another year.
If it's any evidence in the photos posted to social media, this year's opening weekend looked like it went off without a hitch. The decorations were up, a giant moose was there to welcome attendees, and the kiosks were in full commercial bloom.
There are over 50 wooden huts where you can peruse everything from candles and jewelry to Christmas decorations and cosmetics.
You can even pick up your own Christmas tree on the lot.
The giant raclette feast was really something to behold. No one seemed to mind the freezing cold when there were pounds upon pounds of cheese warming by the fire. The event sold over 1500 raclette plates - a first-ever.
The market is only a five-minute walk from Lionel-Groulx metro, and is worth the visit, even if it's just to stroll around the village and take in the holiday spirit.
