This winter, there is an icy climbing course you can do overthat will straight-up have you feeling like you're in the Alps.
If you're the kind of person who plans your vacation days around adventure and you love winter activities, you need to try this winter mountain climbing experience at Canyon Sainte-Anne in Quebec.
Last week, I wrote about thethey have that flies over Canyon Sainte-Anne, which, believe it or not, is actually taller than Niagara Falls by about 20 metres.
And while I was on their website, I couldn't help but gawk at the amazing video they have for this cable circuit, called the Via Ferrata, that allows you to climb icy cliffs and rappel down snow-covered slopes in the same canyon throughout the wintertime.
"Via ferrata," which means "iron path" in Italian, is a protected climbing route built with steel cables that are fixed to the mountain face.
I'm someone who craves time on a mountain once the snow falls and this seems like such a cool activity to add to a ski trip... so if you are thinking of spending time in the Charlevoix region this winter, you might want to take a day off from the slopes to try this unreal via ferrata over Canyon Sainte-Anne.
Watch the video below!
I think one of the best things about Via Ferrata is that while it looks (and likely feels) super intense, you don't have to be a pro climber to participate with this one.
The website explains that there's no clipping or unclipping of carabiners, instead, you're just locked in the whole time, gliding along the cable and securely strapped in. (This is actually only one of three in the world built like this!)
It also means that you've got a little more breathing room to stop and look around to really enjoy the amazing scenery.
The whole site of Canyon Sainte-Anne is breathtaking year-round, so even if you're not trying to learn any new death-defying stunts this winter, you can always just appreciate the beauty of the natural canyon.
Though, after October 20, the site will close for the winter, save for the climbing activities like Via Ferrata that are run by Projet Vertical, which you must book by reservation.
