Ausable Chasm has to be one of the most ideal spots to take a road trip from Montreal to once the weather hits double digits. One of the many great things about living in Montreal is how many cool activities live within driving distance of our city. Quebec itself may have a ton of amazing things to see and do, but so does the other side of the border. Like Ausable Chasm, known as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, which is only a 90-minute drive from Montreal. But let me tell you that it's a world very different from what we city folk are used to. And, although the area exudes a ton of beauty throughout every season, I believe it reaches its peak during the summer. Ausable Chasm has a variety of cool things to see and do, including some funky tours that you're going to need to check out once you get there. The most popular is the two-part classic tour that includes a stunning hike through the upper chasm and a scenic float through the Ausable River. The 2-mile long (3.2 km for us Canadians) sandstone gorge has a river that runs through it and features some of the most phenomenal rock formations. This area offers a ton of natural beauty to take in, which makes for a perfect escape from our city walls. There is an adventure trail that brings adventure seekers to secret areas featuring cable bridges, edge walks, and cargo net climbs. There are also biking trails, night and day tours, rock climbing, zip-lining, rappelling, and rafting. And with great reason — who doesn't love spending their day floating away? This fun and relaxing activity, that goes along 3.2 km of water, is a great way of blowing off steam while taking in a natural beauty that surrounds you. According to the website, you are provided with "tubes and life jackets, so you can hop in and float down the river at your own pace.
