Alberta-Montreal Oil Pipeline Is Definitely Happening, For Better Or Worse

Enbridge's proposed oil pipeline reversal has been approved by the National Energy Board. The pipeline, otherwise known as Line 9, will pump crude oil from Alberta eastward towards Ontario and Montreal.

Many Montrealers, and like-minded ecological advocates, won't be happy by this decision, and for good reason. The pipeline will pump 300, 000 barrels of crude oil across a good chunk of Canada every single day, which sounds like an environmental disaster just waiting to happen.

Despite environmental concerns, and very possible repercussions, The National Energy board said the pipeline project will be "safe and environmentally sensitive."

Residents of Michigan who suffered the Kalamazoo River oil spill probably heard all this before. Back in 2010, Enbridge's oil pipeline ruptured in Michigan, dumping 3.3 million litres of crude oil into the nearby Kalamazoo River. It was the largest inland oil spill in U.S. history.

A track record like that does not inspire confidence.

Are you for or against Line 9?
