It's a little cold and a little gloomy out there today. The rainy weather may have put a damper on whatever your Friday night plans "May" have been (pun intended). So, if you're reconsidering stepping foot outside today, I'm here to enable you.
I've put together a list of underrated Netflix rom-coms/chick flicks perfect for a night with your girlfriends. All you need now is some popcorn, some chocolate, and a couple of bottles of rosé.
Sounds like the perfect Friday night to me...
Nothing is more annoying than spending literal hours debating which movie to watch, and then settling on a movie you've already seen, because at least you know it's a good one. This list aims to spare you some of the headache.
These rom-coms are not the most well-known, which means that there is a chance you haven't seen at least one of these. I can assure you that they're all great choices though!
My Best Friend's Wedding
This is probably Julia Roberts's most underrated rom-com EVER. It's fantastic. When the main character finds out that her best friend is getting married, she realises that she's been in love with him this whole time. Predictable, but entertaining.
The Sweetest Thing
This movie is awful — in the best possible way. Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate star in this raunchy rom-com. Cue the musical sequence about how girthy last night's one night stand was.
Molly Ringwald, Goldie Hawn, Keanu Reeves, and Pamela Anderson in a movie together? Oh, and Noah Centineo (of course). You have to watch this movie about a teen doubting her relationship with her surfer boyfriend after the arrival of a cute new musician. Is it a cinematic masterpiece? Not exactly. But it is entertaining.
This movie is about strong female bonds and one girl's journey to self-confidence. I don't think enough people have seen this movie, which is genuinely touching while staying funny. Plus, there's even a cute little romance.
Across The Universe
This coming-of-age story follows two California teens through the tumultous 60s. The Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War are just some of the events in the background. The musical is set to Beatles music. Funny, sad, touching: this movie has it all.
Miley Cyrus stars in this adorable rom-com. The plot is pretty predictable, but the actors are beautiful and the outfits are fantastic. It's an all-around entertaining movie, and perfect for a night with girlfriends.
This movie follows a wealthy woman and her store clerk assistant as they fall in love. It's a story of a forbidden romance that "leads to heartbreak and liberating joy," according to Netflix.
This Norwegian movie follows a wealthy young ballerina who suddenly finds her world turned around when her father is forced to file for bankruptcy. Enter: a cute hip-hop dancer. It's a tale of self-discovery and love with AMAZING dance sequences.
This movie may be too recent to have earned the title "underrated," but it's included on the list because it truly is a must-watch. The movie follows a music journalist through her post-break-up journey. It's a story of resilience and friendship.
After her wedding is called off, a girl embarks on what would have been her honeymoon by herself. She challenges herself and traditional beliefs in a hilarious, heartwarming movie.
I hope that this simplifies the movie-selection process tonight. Stay cozy, Montreal.
