Environment Canada Warning: Parts Of Southern Quebec Will Be Hit With 50mm Of Rain

Environment Canada Warning: Parts Of Southern Quebec Will Be Hit With 50mm Of Rain

Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for several areas around Southern Quebec today as anywhere from 25-50mm of rain is expected in certain parts of the province.

The Government site mentions a "low-pressure system" that is coming in from the American Midwest and bringing with it significant amounts of rain through Western Quebec.

Later in the evening, though, the rain will move through Southern and Central Quebec and continue into Friday. Environment Canada notes that come Friday, "heavy" rainfall is to be expected and "flooding is possible" is certain, vulnerable areas.

Below are the areas that are currently under the Environment Canada Rainfall Warning.

These are all the areas that are currently under a Rainfall Warning, issued by Environment Canada:

  • Abitibi
  • Drummondville
  • Bois-Franc
  • La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve
  • Lachute - Saint-Jérôme
  • Lanaudière
  • Laurentians
  • Metro Montréal
  • Laval
  • Châteauguay
  • La Prairie
  • Longueuil
  • Varennes
  • Mont-Laurier
  • Mont-Tremblant Park
  • Saint-Michel-des-Saints
  • Parent
  • Gouin Reservoir
  • Pontianc
  • Québec
  • Richelieu Valley
  • Saint-Hyacinthe
  • Témiscamingue
  • Upper Gatineau
  • Lièvre
  • Papineau
  • Vaudreuil
  • Soulanges
  • Huntingdon

Richelieu Valley and Saint-Hyacinthe are both also under a Wind Warning, according to Environment Canada.

There are also several areas that are under a "Special Weather Statement" because they will also be seeing significant amounts of rain, though not enough to issue a full-on "Warning".

The areas that have been issued a "Special Weather Statement," due to suspected rainfall, are as follows:

  • Baie-Comeau
  • Beauce
  • Charlevoix
  • Chibougamau
  • Eastern Townships
  • Gatineau
  • La Tuque
  • Lac-Saint-Jean
  • Laurentians Wildlife Reserve
  • Manicouagan River
  • Saguenay
  • Sept-Îles
  • Port-Cartier

The Rainfall Warning is likely dueto the potential damage of already impacted flood zones. If we were in the middle of July, 50mm of rain would just be a picnic-ruiner, but since so many areas are still dealing with being inundated with water, this rain could spell more dire circumstances.

We will keep you posted with any new warnings as they are issued as well as any areas that do start to see flooding as the rain begins.
