Everyone Is Talking About "Dumplin,'" The Controversial New Netflix Canada Original Starring Jennifer Aniston

Netflix originals have been the butt of some pretty serious criticism and scrutiny over the past few months.

To most Netflix addicts out there, the decline in quality of Netflix original programming is apparent. Several Netflix original series and movies are so bad, it makes you wonder who could have even green-lighted these ideas to begin with?

TL;DR A brand-new original film "Dumplin'" has just been released by Netflix Canada. This teen comedy deals with a plus-sized protagonist and therefore has been highly anticipated by critics and audiences. "Dumplin" has actually received rave reviews by audiences across the board, even earning a 85% on Rotten Tomatoes after its opening weekend.

Netflix recently produced yet another "controversial" original movie that was just released in Canada over the weekend.

Based on a best-selling novel of the same name, "Dumplin'" stars A-list celeb Jennifer Aniston, who plays a former Texas beauty pageant queen, and Danielle Macdonald as her teenage daughter Willowdean Dickson, who signs up for her mother's Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant, which has never had a plus-sized application before.

This is where the "controversy" comes in, as any series that deals with a plus-sized female protagonist is bound to received with skepticism.

Other Netflix originals like "Insatiable" clumsily attempted to critique our beauty-obsessed culture, but failed miserably and ended-up being criticized as fat-shaming, amongst other negative reviews.

The surprising verdict on "Dumplin" after its premiere weekend: audiences are loving it!

Refinery 29 had a few plus-sized fashion bloggers give their 2 cents about the film, and all the reviews are unequivocally positive.

"Dumplin'" avoids the easy traps into which many films fall when deadling with beauty standards.

Marie Claire magazine even called it "the best film of the year." Also, the audience score on the ever-reliable Rotten Tomatoes already reaches 85%.

While audiences are loving and raving about it, some more serious film-critics are a little more harsh on the Netflix original. The Guardian recently called it "boringly conventional," for example.

Despite the slightly mixed reviews, it looks this light-hearted and sweet comedy is most definitly worth cuddling up on your couch and watching over a lazy weekend.
