First of all, if you receivea call from a number that starts with the area code 678, DO NO ANSWER AND DO NOT CALL BACK.

Now that that's out of the way, let's find out what these calls are and where they are they coming from. The calls are coming from The Republic of Vanuatu, which an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean.

The scam works by calling you, letting the phone ring once or twice, then they wait for you to call them back.

Only you're actually calling back a premium rate number that's charging you by the minute. Some people have been charged up to $8 USD per minute by a Vanuatu phone number.

If you're unsure about a number, you can always Google it to find out where it's coming from, and make sure to check your phone bill if you have been receiving calls from a 678 area code.
