Everything Happening For Canada Day In Montreal Today
After a full year leading up to Canada's huge 150th birthday, the day has finally come. We've been waiting and wishing for this day because it's going to be one of the biggest celebrations in Canada's history.
This Saturday, July 1st is Canada Day and there's so much to do in the city. There's tons of free things happening, family-oriented events and of course the huge firework show that will be taking place!

One of the best things that comes with big events like Canada Day is the free things. There's tons of ways to celebrate in the city without having to pay a dime this Saturday!
1. Canada Day Parade
The Canada Day Parade is always free and always the best way to show your Canadian pride! The parade with start at 11 am on Saint Catherine St. between Du Fort and Peel. Don't forget to where red and white and get ready to celebrate!
2. Gay Village Open Air Gallery
Montreal's Gay Village is hosting an open air gallery on it's streets that are completely closed off to cars. Walk in the middle of the streets and browse through the tents holding amazing art galleries!
3. Montreal Jazz Festival
Montreal's famous Jazz Festival is starting this week and I know everyone in the city is super excited. Every day they offer tons of free concerts and Canada Day is no exception. They'll be presenting free concerts all day from 11 am to 11 pm so don't miss out on some great music!
4. Mont-Royal Concert
The Friends of the Mountain will be holding a free concert at the Chalet du Mont-Royal on top of Montreal's famous mountain. The concert will be held from 3-4 pm!

One of the most important things about celebrating a holiday like this is doing it with the whole family! In the Old Port of Montreal they're holding tons of family-friendly events, so check out some of the best ones below.
1. Petting Zoo
From 12pm-5pm in the Old Port there will be a petting zoo set up with tons of animals like goats, lambs, geese, alpacas and much more! Bring your family to enjoy some farmhouse fun.
2. Inflatable Games
From 12pm-8pm there will be tons of inflatable games set up in the Old Port. This is the perfect activity to keep your kids busy and happy for a few hours!
3. Flag-Making Workshop
From 12pm-8pm there will be workshops to make your own Canadian flags! Decorate them how you want and celebrate this great country. 3 sessions will run every 20 minutes.
4. Face Painting
There will be face painting artists located in the Old Port from 12pm to 8pm. Bring your kids and get their faces painted into lions, princesses, monsters, cats, and more!

Where To Watch The Fireworks On Canada Day:
Watching the fireworks on Canada Day is basically a tradition for everyone. It's the big shabang at the end of the day that everyone is excited for. The fireworks will be starting at 10pm for 30 minutes so don't miss them! Here are some spots in the city where you'll get the best view of the big light show.
1. La Ronde
The fireworks are set of from La Ronde so if you want the best view in the city, this is the place to be. You'll be up close and personal with the firework show though so make sure you're not afraid of loud noises! Only downside is you'll have to pay for entry into the park, but if you spend your day riding the rides and then watch the fireworks at night, it's totally worth it.
2. Lachine Canal
Watch the firework show from the bridges of the Lachine Canal for a perfect view. I used to run down here during the firework festival last summer and I can say that it's honestly the perfect spot to watch them from. Bonus is that you won't have to pay a thing for entry!
3. Clock Tower Beach
With clear views of Montreal's Jacques Cartier bridge, you'll get the perfect seat for the firework show this weekend. You can relax under an umbrella in a comfy chair while the lights explode above you!
4. Village Au Pied Du Courant
This spot is the best place to be on Canada Day, they have a nice beach, a stocked bar, a DJ and obviously the perfect views of the firework show. Get over here early to snag your spot for prime viewing!

Now that you've spent the day watching the parade, doing fun free things with your family and watching the firework show, it's time to go out on the town and celebrate. You knew the day couldn't end there, so check out these places to continue your Canada 150 celebrations!
1. La Voute
If you spent your day in the Old Port, continue the celebration underground at Montreal's secret club in a vault. Located below Crew Cafe, you'll find this club built into the old RBC bank vault. Celebrate in style this weekend!
2. Saint Laurent
After the events are all finished you're definitely gonna want to head up to Saint Laurent to finish the night off. This street is filled with bars and clubs so you'll have plenty to choose from! Check out Blizzarts, SuWu, Ecole Privee, or Tokyo Bar for some good options.
3. The Gay Village
Come here at night to find some great clubs, bars and drag shows to end the night off right. After you've been celebrating all day long, this is the place in Montreal you want to come to keep the party going strong! Check out Sky Bar, Cabaret Mado, Club Unity, and Stereo for some good options.
4. Crescent Street
Crescent Street is filled with bars and restaurants to enjoy a night out after your full day of celebrations. It's a little bit more tourist-y than the others but it's still a great option for your night out. Check out Thursday's, Winnie's, Brutopia, and Mad Hatter's for some good options!
