Everything You Need To Know About The Montreal Couple Accused Of Terrorism

A Quebec Superior Court judge has formally withdrawn a charge of "facilitating a terrorist act".

The couple had originally been suspected of leaving Canada to join ISIS in Syria.

When they had been originally arrested in April 2015, investigators found Jihadist propaganda on mobile devices, passport applications, a handwritten recipe for making a bomb, and bomb-making materials.

The events leading to their arrest had started with a propaganda video from John Maquire, a Canadian ISIS fighter. At the time of their introduction to the video, they had been living together, while attending College de Maisonneuve.

However, the defence made a formal request for the charge to be withdrawn after the prosecution rested its case.

However, Sabrine Djermane and El Mahdi Jamali are still charged with:

  • Attempting to leave Canada to commit a terrorist act

  • Possession of an explosive substance

  • Committing an act under the direction of, or for the profit of a terrorist organisation
