If you’re a student living on your own, then you know just how expensive rent can be. If you haven't taken the step of living on your own just yet, the expenses that come along with the freedom of living alone? Yeah, there are a lot more than you realize.
Not only do you need to factor in utility fees, but you also need to furnish your space.
I’ve been out of university for two years now and I've pretty much accepted the fact that bills are never going to go away. While I am already settled in my condo, I know of one student residence that is perfect for those people who are looking to leave the nest and branch out on their own.
Parc Cité is a private student residence that operates 365 days a year and is located right in the heart of downtown. While some of the amenities and culture cater to students, there are plenty of spaces available for anyone - in every walk of life. They don't cater only to students!
If you’ve ever lived in a student residence then you know that most of them are closed during the summer months, which can be super inconvenient. Plus, if you've ever toured different places to explore living on your own, then you're probably already familiar with the dilemma of an inflexible 12 month lease term.
But luckily, Parc Cité makes it super easy! From September to April, they offer housing to students from schools all over the area. During the summer, they house those that are looking for a short-term lease such as students taking summer school, tourists looking to visit Montreal or even those who just landed summer internships in the city.
Not to mention that all of the rooms are fully furnished, which means you don’t need to stress about buying furniture.
They’ve got everything from single to double rooms (in case your bestie is tagging along) and they even offer some pretty amazing features like trendy common spaces, a social lounge, a fitness center that’s open all day every day, a convivial kitchen on every floor and a fully equipped laundry lounge.
Now, this isn’t like your regular residence building or anything like that (mine was SO depressing but then again, I did study in Ottawa so). The entire building is full of life and is covered with amazing street art that showcases the beautiful and vibrant city that Montreal really is.
And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, if you’re a Parc Cité resident, you get discounts to surrounding restaurants and cafes, themed parties, and Chef on Call - which is a food delivery service for students. This is pretty much the one residence that checks off everything on your "dream housing" list!
Don’t believe me? Well, you can always go and visit for yourself. Just be warned, you WILL fall in love with the building.
If you’re ready to take that first step towards living on your own, don’t stress because the leasing process is incredibly simple. All you have to do is fill out an application online, send over copies of your IDs, wait for the lease to arrive in your inbox, sign and send it back! You are now an official Parc Cité resident.
