Dawson's Tuition-Free Video Game Program You Can Take This Fall

Graduates win awards!

When I was doing my undergrad, I was living in a house full of guys. While most girls were joining sororities (I’m still bitter I didn’t get in to any), I was playing Call Of Duty and NHL 13 with my roommates. It was during those two years of living with the opposite sex that I became addicted to video games.

So you can imagine how pumped I was when I heard that Dawson College is offering an Independent Video Game Design program geared towards those who want to start their own indie game studio.

Video game lovers rejoice because this is legit and it’s the only multi-disciplinary program in all of Montreal that will teach you everything you need to know from art, programming, design and even business.

But wait, because it gets better.

Not only is this two-year evening program (no summer school) taught by video game industry veterans who've worked at lots of local studios including Minority Media, Flying Carpets, Artifact 5, Sauropod Studio and more. And even with these in-demand teachers, it’s still tuition FREE if you’re a Quebec resident. Yes, you read that right, FREE.

And not only is it free tuition but if you're a Quebec resident and a full-time student, you are also eligible for loans and bursaries!

So what exactly can you expect to learn from this program? Well, some of the courses include video game art, scripting, prototyping, technical architecture, game promotion & marketing plus more!

And if you needed any more convincing on why you should apply to this epic program, just take a look at some of Dawson’s video game graduates like Chris Day and Socrates Sotos who created the game King Of The Hat as a final project and have gone on to win 5 awards for the game, founded their own studio and have even run a successful Kickstarter campaign.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the program, Dawson will be hosting info sessions on April 12 & April 25 starting at 6:30 PM in room 4C1. And if you’re ready to apply, don’t delay because the application deadline is May 12, 2018.

And ladies, if you’ve got a passion for video games I urge you to apply as the industry is in need of your influence and perspective.
