There’s no denying that springtime in Montreal is a wonderful thing! The grass is turning green, the flowers are blooming, and the whole city is once again springing to life. But with the melting snow also comes all the hidden treasures (ie. garbage) we left behind over the winter. Not so pretty.
Thankfully, the City of Montreal is staying on top of keeping our home town the gorgeous place that it is, with their 7th annual Spring Clean-Up!
Started in 2009, the Montreal Spring Clean-Up is a city-wide initiative aimed at bringing together people from every community to help beautify our parks and neighbourhoods. It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s gotta do it, so might as well be with your fellow Montrealers.
Don’t worry, the City provides everything you need, from gloves, to brooms, to bags, so all you have to do is show up ready to participate. In fact, this Nation-wide initiative sees the highest rate of participation here in Montreal, which is pretty damn awesome if you think about it. We really do love our city more than anywhere else, it seems, but we already knew that didn’t we!?
One person trying to clean a whole city is impossible, but gather hundreds of us and it becomes a walk in the park, quite literally. That’s exactly what happened at the big Spring Clean-Up on Mont-Royal just recently, where some 300 Montrealers collected over 90 bags of garbage in just a few hours, leaving us with a fresh, clean park to enjoy.
The Montreal Spring Clean-Up happens April 1 through December 31 in all corners of Montreal. We all want a clean city we can be proud of, so instead of waiting around for it to magically happen by itself, let’s be proactive and make it happen.
And who knows, maybe you'll even meet someone interesting...
