Summer has quickly faded into fall in Montreal and it's time to get out and enjoy the most beautiful season of the year before the snow starts to settle in! And sure, you can always hike up Mount Royal to check out the colourful leaves, but if you're really looking for an awesome autumn experience without having to tread too far outside of your comfort zone, you might be surprised by what's waiting for you just across the river.
There are countless day trips awaiting you in Laval, no matter what you're into. And now that Mountain Equipment Co-op is opening a new location there, a ton of activities and workshops will soon be available to members. You can also rent bikes, kayaks and more at MEC, so you are sure to be properly outfitted for all activities this fall. Here a just a few ideas for good times outside.
1 - Go For A Bike Ride Across Perry Island Bridge
Laval has tons of great bike routes that weave through some beautiful scenery and are guaranteed to be less crowded than anything on the island. Whether you're crossing the Perry Island Bridge, the Grand Moulin Dam, or anywhere in between, there's no shortage of trails in Laval's cycling network for you to ride. And if you're not sure where to go or need a quick tune-up, MEC has all kinds of outings and bike maintenance programs to keep you and your bike in top shape.
2 - Go For A Jog at Parc Nature du Bois-de-Saraguay
Fall is the perfect season for jogging - it's not too cold to run, and not so hot you'll get easily dehydrated. Parc Nature du Bois-de-Saraguay offers a 1,8km trail that brings you through one of the oldest forests in the city - it's basically a is a life-size museum! It's the perfect place to go exploring with your friends while exercising. Go out and hit the pavement before winter sets in, and if you're really looking to go the extra mile, MEC organizes meet-ups and marathon training sessions, as well as informative nutrition guides to keep you pushing the limit.

3 - Go For A Paddle At Parc de la Riviere-des-Milles-Iles
If cardio isn't really your thing, then why not try something that seems a little less like exercise and more like fun! There's a vast expanse of islands, rivers, and wetlands in Laval just waiting to be explored and admired by you and your friends from the comfort of a kayak or canoe! Parc de la Rivière-des-Milles-Iles is an official "Wildlife Reserve" so it's great place to get up close and personal with the unique fauna and flora of the area. Whether you're more into kayaking, canoeing, or just lounging on the shore, it's an amazing spot to unwind and get in touch with nature. Gear up and get going!
4 - Go For A Hike At Parc-Nature du Bois-de-Liesse
Whether you're in Parc de la Riviere-Des-Milles-Iles, or one of the many other scenic spots in Laval, there are countless hiking trails for you to check out. The Sentier des Attraits at Parc Nature du Bois-de-Liesse is a captivating place to admire the beautiful hardwood forest and the aquatic wildlife of the Bertrand stream and Rivière des Prairies while getting your cardio in for the day. Whether you're hiking through the woods, or on a boardwalk over a marsh, it's one of the best places to get out and experience nature and wildlife this season!
