Feel Good Friday: Montrealers' Heartwarming Stories About STM Staff

Feel Good Friday: Montrealers' Heartwarming Stories About STM Staff

Montrealers are often eager to jump on the STM-hating bandwagon. Starting off your day on an overcrowded bus that was 20 minutes late is a sure-fire way to be in a bad mood for the rest of the day. And there is no reason for so many buses to be breaking down on a regular basis.

But today is Friday, it's sunny and I'm looking forward to the weekend. And I think that we all need a little positivity. It's easy to hate on the STM, but there are anecdotes out there that are so sweet they not only restore my faith in the STM but in humanity more generally.

TL;DR I've compiled a list of tweets, posts and personal stories that people have posted praising STM employees for being upstanding human beings.

Our own Jeremy has written about his feel-good story: you can check it out here.

And we've covered the singing metro driver in the past. This man in particular has made people really happy:

Omg the #metro#driver is #singing to us at every station on speaker. Best #commute ever. #stm#publictransit#Montreal#CanadianThings

I’ve got the singing metro driver again, keeping us all entertained through orange-line slowdown. “Le prochain station: Champ de Mars. Champ des Martiens. Champ d’espace. [making eerie space-soundtrack theramin noise] Ooooooweeeeeeeeeeeoooooo-ohhhhh.”

The metro 🚇 driver is singing and being really delightful on the mic like yes entertainment! More of this please @stminfo

People really do appreciate good drivers:

.@stminfo bravo au chauffeur de la ligne 47 qui met une belle ambiance dans la bus. Super acceuil et annonces excellentes. 👍👨‍✈️

Announcing on @stminfo loudspeaker just now, the DG thanking STM employees for coming in.

“We provide an essential service, especially on a snow storm day like today, so thank you very much for your work.”

VERY TRUE!

On this miserable day - I want to salute the very kind @stminfo bus drivers. The 112 Airlie drivers are waiting for passengers to get off safely and avoding splashing pedestrians when possible. #STM #112 #kindness#thankyou

STM employees: WE APPRECIATE YOU.

This post describes a bus driver of the 150 line who stopped the bus to help a woman who fell and hit her head on the ice. The post shows that sometimes buses are late for a good reason. But people will still complain that the bus was late...

I would like to give a special shoutout to STM drivers who see you taking your life in your hands by running on the icy sidewalks to catch the bus and wait for you.

The sidewalks are A MESS. Thank you to the kind STM driver who waited for me to cross the street and navigate my way to the bus door. @stminfo#Montreal

@stminfo a driver on the green line just waited for a man with a cane to get down the stairs at guy-Concordia before he took off again. Very kind gesture 💕

The "Les Conseils de Michèle" campaign was not popular with everybody, but most can agree that it was a pretty fun time:

So many people drop their phones on the subway tracks that my city's public transport authority is handing out phone loops for free this week, what a genius level move https://t.co/IL2ywsDJN1

December 18, 2018

[#ConseilsdeMichele] 🚇💡📲 Actions speak louder than words! Michèle wants to help you keep your cell phone in hand. Watch our team at different stations on Tuesday and Wednesday to get a free phone loop! pic.twitter.com/NEAGDRFlxZ

Gotta love all the perks that the STM gives out as well! Last year they gave out free phone bands!

And if you didn't like those announcements, there's bound to be at least one that catches your attention:

Bruuuh they announce what station to get off to go watch the #habs game in the @stminfo now? Now that's fucking service.

My personal favourite story? The metro driver with a sense of humour who played blink 182's "All The Small Things." Of course, the whole train had to sign along to "carry me hoooome...."

What are your best STM stories?
