Hummus and hamburgers aren't the typical go-to ideas for comfort food. Hamburgers maybe, but hummus is definitely not on the North American comfort food radar. Hummus is usually relegated to the snack food sphere, and burgers more towards fast food. ART: brgr will prove you wrong on both accounts. Inspired by the Tel Aviv food scene and traditional recipes, ART: brgr incorporates foreign and traditional flavours through the two big H's (hummus and hamburgers, duh).
Hummus at ART: brgr is much more than a snack, it is a meal unto itself. Using his own grandmother's recipe, the owner and operator of ART: brgr prepares hummus daily to ensure freshness and quality. Boasted as "the best hummus you will ever eat," customers are challenged to say otherwise. I took the challenge, and gladly lost because this is some damn good hummus. Paired with Moroccan spiced beef, a fresh and fluffy pita, and crisp slaw-like salad, ART: brgr's hummus was smooth, hearty, huge on flavour. Tons of additions and pairings can be made instead of beef, so vegetarians will not be disappointed in what really is a great meal out of what is usually considered a dip.
Living up to its namesake, ART: Brgr makes a wild and interesting hamburger. Sure, you can get a simple beef patty on a bun, but why would you when you could eat up creations like The Poutine Burger, The Elvis Burger with banana and peanut butter, or the Cardiac Arrest Burger which ranked 3rd in last year's Burger Week MTL competition. Grilled tofu burgers can also be ordered, along with mini sliders for lighter fair, and you can even create your own. Taking a holistic approach to hamburgers, focusing on all aspects of a burger from bun to condiments, the hamburgers at ART: Brgr are as uniquely delicious as their hummus.
Appealing to all of those folks who love to drink while they eat (which is everyone), ART: Brgr has a fully stocked bar and an expanding tapas menu. In the coming weeks look forward to tapas and wine pairings, along with ART: Brgr's two year anniversary party on August 21st. In the mean time, enjoy ART: brgr's solid happy hour special which gets you a large jars of sangria and a big batch of nachos for an affordable $20. Feel free to try out their other tasty cocktails and play a game of pool while you're at it too.
Not your typical burger joint, ART: brgr does things differently and it works great. Their burgers are epic in size and flavour, but to me the hummus was the surprise star. No where else in Montreal does hummus like ART: brgr, so I'd definitely recommend just ART: brgr just for that. Take the challenge yourself and see what else ART: brgr has to offer your taste buds.
