We're nearing the close of November folks, otherwise known as Grilled Cheese Month in Montreal, and although L'Gros Luxe and Le Cheese have been doing a stellar job of giving your taste buds a brand new grilled cheese to enjoy every day, you're probably getting a little tired of the same old sandwich format. It's time to switch things up and enjoy the magically nostalgic flavours of a grilled cheese, always best accompanied by tomoto soup, by creating the mouthgasm that is the Grilled Cheese Tomato Soup Dumplings by Thrillist.
Despite seeming like some mystical culinary creation only capable of an alchemist-cook of the highest order, the recipe for these flavour-fusion dumplings is actually pretty simple. The ingredient list only calls for a can of tomato soup, slices of cheese, some white bread (Wonderbread-style) with the crust cut off, a bit a milk, and some oil for frying.
The first step in the recipe is the strangest and a takes some foresight, as you'll need to freeze your tomato soup in an ice tray. Once you've got your tomato cubes, cut'em into quarters, then wrap it in a slice of cheese and a piece of bread moistened with milk. Then deep fry those bad boys and you have a dumpling filled with the flavours of your childhood.
Feast your eyes on the Grilled Cheese Tomato Soup Dumplings below, and be sure to head to the original recipe on Thrillist for the detailed breakdown.
