New on the restaurant scene, Tkrestobar, located on Victoria and Van Horne in Cote-des-Neiges, is definitley making waves, at least to this food writer. With definite asian influences, Tkrestobar has a diverse menu that includes traditional dishes and those inspired by the latest food trends. Sticking to the mandate of making good food without a specific nationality in mind, Tkrestobar has a lot to offer food lovers, including an epic ramen burger.
To start your meal off right, TK has a wide array of appetizers. Pork belly steamed buns are a favourite, and I can see why. More of a fluffy sandwich than a fully encased pastry, the steamed buns were perfectly spicy and sweet, and accompanied by pickled cucumbers and roasted peanuts for some crunchy texture.
Tk has many more appetizers to offer, some of them legit enough to be meals in themselves. The Chino-wings, lathered in a sweet and tangy chili-fish sauce, are zesty, crispy, and tender. Great wings, 'nuff said.
A blend of flavours, the chicken satays are spiced with an in-house jerk sauce and complimented with a tangy fish sauce as well.
Tk's tartars are both great choices, as the salmon tartar with avacado is smooth and buttery, while the beef tartar with dijon and fried parmesan is meaty in the best way with a light tang.
But the real fun begins with the main dishes. Noodle bowls are a big seller, and I was impressed with the authenticity that goes into Tk's Crispy Chicken Egg Noodle bowl. The chicken is braised, dried, and then fried for a very cripsy skin and juicy interior. Served with a soft boiled egg, its a lot of fun to self-mix all of the ingredients in the bowl and then indulge. In truth, the noodle bowl was lacking in the zest department, at least compared to everything else i ate, but some hot sauce would fix that right up I'm sure.
As a second main dish I got to have Tk's version of the ramen burger. All I can say is: OH MY FREAKING GOD YOU NEED TO EAT THIS. Like actually. Despite all of the internet craze around the ramen burger, Tk's truly lived up to the hype. The ramen bun was simultaneously crispy and noodley while it absorbed all of the meaty juiced. Served with a side of fries and chipotle mayo (also awesome), I have to stop describing it now only because I become ravenous just at the thought of it. Even right after Burger Week, Tk's ramen burger blew my taste bud's mind. Just go eat it. You'll be a better person for it.
Very fairly priced and with a wide range of different menu items, which consisistently change, TKrestobar is great for anyone, both young and old, in the Cote-des-Neiges area. And even if you don't live around the area, make the trip for the ramen burger alone.
