Paris policeman, Arnaud Martin, shot his girlfriend in the face, on Saturday evening, before going on a killing spree and eventually killing himself.

Following his shift, the 31-year-old had been on his way to meet his girlfriend to have a discussion about ending the relationship.

However, an argument ensued between the two, during which Martin turned his weapon on her and killed two men who attempted to intervene.

Immediately afterwards, he paid a visit to the girl's parents' house. There, he killed her father, seriously injured her mother, shot her sister in the leg, and killed the family dog.

Martin's body was found, gun in hand, with a gunshot wound to the head, at the back of the garden.

The news comes amidst a spate of police suicides, in France, this year.
