TL;DR Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this morning, meaning we won't have to endure six extra weeks of winter this year... if you believe in a future-predicting, ground-dwelling mammal, that is.

There you have it, folks! #PunxsutawneyPhil has made his prediction - an early spring is on its way🌷🌼🌻🌞 Thanks for another memorable #GroundhogDay#GHD2019🎩🐾 Look out for #PASunnyDays coming your way😎 pic.twitter.com/3Yp35oYQwM

Yes, the 133-year-old groundhog was pulled from his hiding place early this morning and the president of the Groundhog club was able to get Phil's prediction for the coming year.

Because Phil didn't see his shadow this morning, we will be saved six weeks of winter and instead see spring bloom.

The ritual is based on a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition that comes from the superstition that if a groundhog comes out of his burrow on a clear day and sees his shadow, he'll go right back in and hide for another six weeks.

However, if he doesn't see his shadow due to overcast weather, he'll bound out of his burrow and we can expect that spring will come early.

The ceremony goes down at Gobbler's Knob every year, on February 2nd, where crowds of people come out to see Phil's prediction.

Crowds shout, "Phil, Phil, Phil," before he is pulled from his hay-filled hutch, and the conduits of the Groundhog Club deliver Phil's prediction for the coming months.

You can watch the live video below, where one club member reminds the crowd he's just the messenger, in case he was left to deliver a less-than-desired outcome.

Not this year, though. If we're to believe the furry little fortune teller, we can expect an early spring.

And if this coming week is any indication, maybe we can anticipate some warmer weather.

I won't be holding my breath, it is a groundhog after all and we're in Canada in February, so we all know the winter is nowhere near done.

But perhaps Phil had a sense of Montreal's week to come: it won't be dropping below -10 this whole week.

Can't be mad about that, now can we?
