Great Winter Date Ideas In Montreal

Once the snow starts falling and it gets cold outside, you've gotta switch up your date game. You can't go to a 5 à 7 on a beautiful terrace anymore or go for a stroll on the mountain. But the winter season brings a whole new world of date night ideas open up to you. For those of you strapped for places to take the person you're trying to woo, we've got you covered.

Grab a holiday cocktail
Going to a bar is always a great date idea, but it can get old after a while. Spice up your bar dates in the winter with holiday cocktails at l'Assommoir. This winter they have a sparkling apple mojito and a mapletini (martini with maple syrup) that are both hugely popular. It definitely helps that the interior design is top notch in class so you'll look like a boss when you take your date to this hot spot in the Mile End or Old Montreal.
Ice skating
I can't stress this enough -- ice skating is the best winter date idea in the world. It's romantic, it's fun, and it's relatively inexpensive (you're probably not going to pay more than $20). The most romantic ice skating rinks are at Bassin Bonsecours in the Old Port and Beaver Lake on Mont Royal. The only downside is that you might get a bit cold, so just share a cup of hot chocolate.
Cozy cafe
Due to it's high population of hipsters (especially in Mile End and the Plateau), Montreal has a cafe on every corner. These are perfect warm places to take someone special and get to know them over a gourmet cup of coffee. Some personal favorites are Arts Cafe on the corner of Fairmont and Avenue de l'Esplanade and Santropol on St. Urbain and Duluth.
Enjoy the snow
Montreal gets a lot of freaking snow. So why not take your date out into the snow and have fun with it! You can go to Parc Jeanne-Mance and make a snowman, go sledding on Mont Royal, or have a snowball fight at Parc La Fontaine. It's cute and you'll have a good time.
Go to the movies
If you'd rather go out and see a movie, you can always go to the movie theatre and see one of the many movies that come out at Christmas time. If your date is a geek, take them to see The Hobbit but even better yet just go see Anchorman 2 when it comes out this Friday. You're guaranteed to have a good time.
Jägermeister Ice Bar
Much more interesting that your average bar in the Plateau is the Jägermeister Ice Bar at the Snow Village at Parc Jean-Drapeau. As you'd guess, the bar is made entirely of ice and it will for sure keep your drinks cold. Beer on tap is $6 and cocktails are $10 and there are a bunch of special events you can take someone special to. Super cool date spot, pun intended.
Cuddle up and watch a movie on Netflix
There is nothing better and more intimate than curling up on the couch around a laptop with the person you're trying to woo and watching a movie. There are tons of Christmas movies and rom-coms available on Netflix (even more if you block your IP address to get American Netflix). The best part of the date is that you don't have to figure out a creative way to get your date back to your place afterwards, you're already there. Bow chicka wow woowwwwww.
