Gun Nuts Planning Pro-Gun Rally At Montreal's Polytechnique Memorial

A pro-gun groupwill be holding a rally on December 2, 2017, aimed at protesting firearm control,  just days before the 28th anniversary of the Montreal Polytechnique shooting.

To make matters worse, the event will be held at the Place du 6-décembre-1989, the Montreal park hosting the memorial commemorating the tragedy.

The groupTous Contre Un Registre Québécois Des armes A Feu (All Against A Quebec Firearms Registry) has drawn a chorus of condemnation from all quarters, beginning with Montreal mayor Valérie Plante.

Perhaps stating the obvious, Plante accused the organizers, on Twitter, of showing a "lack of judgment, but also an unacceptable lack of respect towards the victims of this tragedy and all women victims of violence."

The group organizing the rally has countered by accusing gun control advocates of unfairly using the Polytechnique shooting to further their agenda.

Gun control in Canada took a step backward with the abolition of the federal long-gun registry in 2012.

Quebec, however, has taken concrete steps towards establishing its own long gun registry.

Last month,  a Quebec Superior Court judge overturned an attempt by the National Firearms Association to halt the registry's creation.
