Here's Everything That's Reopening In Quebec June 1 & What You Need To Know

A new wave of reopenings in Quebec begins June 1. In the past few weeks, the government has acted quickly to release plans for some cultural activities and summertime staples, like camping and boating. Some personal health care offices will also begin to welcome back patients.

Some library services, museums, and drive-in theatres opened on May 29.

Many reopenings follow different schedules in the Montreal metropolitan community (CMM), which includes the 82 municipalities of the metro area, and the rest of the province, however.

Joliette is also sometimes lumped in with the CMM when it comes to deconfinement.

On May 25, the government unveiled its "deconfinement plan," showing that the province is entering "phase six" and promising a plan to reopen dine-in restaurants in two steps (though it has not set a date for either). 

Later phases will include bars, large gatherings, gyms, and cruises.

The June 1 openings are listed below along with some of the new rules in place.

Camping & Marinas

On May 27, Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, announced the reopening of Quebec campgrounds.

She also said that while public health officials "don't recommend" travel between regions, "there is no ban by decree."

She asked that Montrealers who leave the city to go camping, therefore, "do all the errands they have to do" before leaving so that they can "[move] from point a to point b, [settle] in their camping unit, [stay] there," and return directly to their homes without stopping along the way.

Marinas are also reopening, but Canada has outlined some rules for recreational boaters.

Vacation Rentals Outside The CMM & Joliette

This includes "principal resident establishments."

Health Care Centres

Personal health care centres are opening across the province.

These include dental care, oral care, physiotherapy, osteopathy, ergotherapy, chiropractic clinics, massotherapy, psychology, optometry, acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, career orientation, social work, marital therapy, family therapy, sexology, nutrition, speech therapy and audiology, podiatry, other forms of alternative or alternative medicine, and grooming for animals.

Personal & Aesthetic Care Services Outside The CMM & Joliette

Also on June 1, aesthetic care services like barbershops, hairdressers, and nail salons outside the CMM and Joliette will begin to welcome customers.

Montreal-area residents will have to wait until June 15 to finally get their post-quarantine haircut.

Courthouses

Courthouses are reopening with the possibility of virtual sessions and electronic document processing.

Performances With No Audience

Performances can be filmed with no audience in attendance. Music and sound recording studios are also reopening.

The Government of Quebec notes on its website that "these activities may resume on condition of compliance with the general workplace measures recommended by public health officials, provided that a distance of two metres is kept between people on stage or in studio."

Daycares In Montreal & Joliette

Specifically, "childcare services, including non-subsidized daycare centres and recognized and non‑recognized family daycare centres" are reopening.

These centres opened in the rest of Quebec on May 11.

Malls Outside The CMM & Joliette

Initially, only stores with their own entrances from the outside could reopen. Now, malls will begin to open their doors with some new health measures in place.

End Of Police Checkpoints In The Côte-Nord

Quebec has been slowly "withdrawing" police checkpoints limiting travel between regions. The checkpoints are gone from the Côte-Nord as of June 1.

As Quebec enters "phase six" of deconfinement, more announcements are likely on the way.
