Here's How Much Hydro Quebec's President Made in 2018

Yesterday, we reported that some Hydro Quebec employees are multiplying their pay with overtime.

Some employees are projected to triple their average salaries all while Quebecers are rejected what's due to them — over $1,000,000,000 in overcharges in the past decade.

Today, we've unearthed some public records that reveal the salary of Hydro Quebec's president, Eric Martel. Let's do some digging, shall we?

TL;DR  Hydro Quebec's president, Eric Martel, makes over half-a-million dollars in salary and will still get his bonus this year. MTL Blog has public records that reveal the salaries of the highest-paid employees. All this while Quebecers are left paying for their mistakes.

In 2018, the average salary for a Hydro Quebec engineer was between $65,000 and $87,000 per year.

To compare, the average high school teacher in Quebec makes only $48,000 per year. Rookie police officers start at $32,000 while the most experienced ones can make up to $90,000 per year. Nurses in Quebec top out at $48,000 per year.

The documents we obtained are public recordas are the salaries listed above. It should come as no surprise to anyone that the average public servant is grossly underpaid.

How a police officer accepts making $15/hour to be yelled at and maybe even shot at reflects how messed up our system is.

Martin Prud'homme, director general of the Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police force, made $217,888 dollars in salary last year, which is $104.75/per hour to sit in an office and do the occasional press conference. Cool, ok.

But I digress - let's get back to our good friend Eric Martel. The president of Hydro Quebec made $559,866 dollars in salary last year or $269.18/per hour.

That's not including his bonus this year. Remember, Martel has a pot of $164 million dollars to draw his bonus from.

To be clear, Hydro Quebec is a government organization. It is a public service.

This is why Hydro Quebec has a monopoly on the energy sector because they've been a branch of government since 1944.

Therefore, a branch of government, along with the leader of the same government, refuses to pay back what they owe to their customers/constituents all while giving themselves bonuses, inflating their already immense salaries.

High-five?

By the way, Hydro Quebec is still raising your rates by 0.8% coming in April. Plus, they recently announced that their salaries have increased by a net 12% since 2017.
