Icy Conditions Across Quebec Today Have Made Roads A Hazardous Mess And You Should Expect Travel Delays

It's the first day in a very long time that the province actually feels a bit like spring. If you just try and ignore the heaps of snow and sleet outside, the temperatures might actually make up for all the winter suffering we've gone through over the last few months. You might even be thinking our winter misery is finally coming to an end.

TL;DR Conditions are icy across the province today. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots will be at most risk for slippery conditions. More details below.

I hate to tell you this, but the cold and snowy season is far from over.

In fact, just because it's warmer today doesn't mean that our troubles are behind us. Instead, they've just been replaced with more appropriate conditions, such as freezing rain.

The ice rain is expected to last for at least the rest of the day. Quebec residents should prepare for up to 4 millimetres of precipitation over the next 24 hours.

The conditions have led to multiple school closures across the province as well as water accumulation becoming an immediate risk for commuters. Montreal's STM is expecting bus delays due to ice and flooding on the roads.

They're also warning of major travel risks across Quebec. Most of us are already familiar with how icy surfaces get when hit with the much-dreaded freezing rain, but using extra caution is advised today.

The ice build-up will particularly affect areas such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots. These surfaces are expected to become extremely hazardous. Needless to say, use caution if you happen to go outside today.

Temperatures are expected to drop from 5C to -10C this evening, meaning any water floating around the city right now will turn to ice in time for Wednesday.

Stay tuned for more information and updates on Quebec's weather warnings and risks.
