IKEA Is Launching A Vegan Soft-Serve Ice Cream

In 2018, the talk of greener practices and increased sustainability is all the rage... as it should be.

Many companies are implementing ways to decrease their carbon footprint, and offer products and services with a "greener" mentality, which is a good thing.

Swedish furniture juggernaut, IKEA, has just announced their ambitions to include more plant-based food in their product line-up in an effort to boost sustainability for the company - and that means something exciting is coming for all you vegans out there!

IKEA has unveiled their plans to include a dairy-free, vegan soft-serve ice cream to their roster of vegan, plant-based food items at the massive retailer!

The announcement came on the company's Instagram page - 100% plant-based, 100% delicious - reads the statement.

To me, this seems like a major announcement! I may not be a practicing vegan myself, and there is no way I will ever abandon cheese or milk chocolate - I will not conform!

Though, many friends of mine, as well as lots of you readers, absolutely love a good vegan option - this is a true fact!

IKEA Bistros has begun this development of vegan soft-serve ice cream as an alternative to dairy-based soft ice creams and intends on rolling this out to IKEA Bistros around the world in summer 2019.

It seems like IKEA has heard all of you vegan folks out there! The company is currently testing fruit-based ice cream in Portugal. The IKEA Bistros in Canada are already offering some vegan plate options.

“We’re working closely with different suppliers to find the right taste and texture and are currently exploring three different alternatives, either based on oats, soy or fruits.” - Gerry Dufresne, the Range Manager at IKEA Food Services

This comes hot on the heels of their highly anticipated vegan hotdog - which has been successfully trialed in Sweden and rolling out through Europe very soon before making its way to North America. The vegan hotdog received a 95% approval among customers trialed!

The two new IKEA bistro items join the ranks of other plant-based options from the company like their “Sjörapport” or “Seaweed Pearls,”, which is a vegan caviar made from kelp seaweed.

IKEA has just been named a pioneer of sustainability by Forbes, and it's actions like this that helped them achieve this. The company has also vowed to reduce its total climate footprint by roughly 70% per product, and pledged to eliminate single-use plastic from its products worldwide!

Well done, IKEA! Coming through for the environment and vegans, everywhere!

In the meantime, this Montreal resto's serve up some incredible vegan ice cream, so check that out too!
