It Might Be Unsafe For Canadians To Travel Following Trump's Recent Announcement

The US State Department has issued what it refers to as a "worldwide caution" for Americans seeking to travel overseas. The announcement was made soon after the Trump administration announced that it would be recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The notice urges US citizens to be aware of local developments, and to remain in contact with US embassies and consulates.

US government facilities worldwide are expected to remain in a heightened state of alert. The situation is so grave that they may even temporarily close or suspend public services.

In particular, it is feared that Americans travelling overseas might be targeted by Islamists.

While the Canadian government has urged Canadians to exercise a "high degree of caution", while travelling to most Middle Eastern and Islamic countries, there have been no special announcements. Furthermore, the same general warning has been applied to non-Islamic countries such as India.

However, there is a very good reason why Canadians should be worried.

Canadians often get confused for Americans, while travelling overseas. Therefore, it is logical to assume that Canadians overseas could be affected by anti-American animosity.

Furthermore, attaching a Canadian flag to your backpack may not help, as Americans might have the same idea. Therefore anyone who's aware of this common American travel manoeuvre might equally target anyone with a Canadian flag on their backpack.

It might be a good time to learn new languages, or learn to mimic other accents to be able to travel undetected.

Most important, it's important to stay in touch with Canadian diplomatic missions while travelling overseas.
