It's Official, Bell Now Has Unlimited Phone Data Plans With No Overage Charges In Canada

News that Rogers has introduced new unlimited data plans with no overage chargesin Canada sent shockwaves through the market. After years of criticism from consumers and Canadian government officials, alike, the telecommunications company committed to improving its customer services.

Now, Bell is following suit. To compete with Rogers, the company has matched the unlimited data plan, according to the CBC. Data speeds will slow after 10 GB, but there will be no fees for surpassing that threshold.

According to the announcement on the Bell Canada website, "our unlimited data plans start at $75 for 10 GB of data at unbeatable speeds across Canada. This allows you to upload, download and stream a ton of content at maximum speed."

"Beyond 10 GB of maximum speed data, you can use unlimited data at reduced speeds of 256 Kbps for light web browsing, emails and texting, without ever having to worry about data overage fees."

This offer is only availabe until June 30th!

These new plans from Rogers and Bell come after the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), a government entity, released a report accusing large telecommunications companies of duplicitous practices.

"Misleading or aggressive sales practices," the CRTC wrote "can cause stress, confusion, and frustration, and can lead to the price paid by Canadians for telecommunications services being sometimes unfair, unpredictable, or higher than they expected."

The new plans from Rogers and Bell could be a turning point in the Canadian telecommunications industry, says the CBC. Though smaller companies have comparable offers, these are among the first large-scale unlimited data plans in Canada.
