American game show, talk show and pageant host Steve Harvey shared the inspirational story of his rise from homelessness to fame in a clip posted to Twitter on Wednesday.
The clip, which appears to show Harvey speaking to an audience during the taping of the game show Family Feud, shows him describe how a visit to Montreal and a performance at Just For Laughs changed his life.

"I had been living in my car for three years," Harvey says in the video. "I entered this Just For Laughs comedy festival and I killed, I mean I killed, man. First night up, I had these Canadians f****** screaming."
The show was so successful, in fact, that representatives from ABC approached Harvey after the show with a performance deal, which he accepted.
The ABC reps then handed Harvey a check for $50,000. "F***," he says in the Twitter clip. "I left the festival that afternoon."
Harvey explains that he went on to buy an airplane ticket to Dallas and secure an apartment.
"Don't give up on your dreams!" Harvey captioned the video on Twitter.
Alright, I’ve been hearing a lot of talk lately about summer basically being over but I don’t know where people are getting this from. Yeah, the weather might not be the greatest this year but when it comes to things to do, Montreal is jam packed with fun activities all season long.
So yah, it will probably continue to rain this summer but let me try and shine some light… Montreal is home to an abundance of festivals, the most popular of those being Just For Laughs.
And in case you didn’t catch any of the shows this year, you’re in luck because there is still one week left for you to see your favourite comedians!
Here are some of our all time favourites who will be gracing Montreal this week before JFL is over:
Featuring performances by hip hop greats Naughty By Nature, the legendary MC, Melle Mel of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, freestyle icon Lisa Lisa of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, as well as the classic duo Nice & Smooth and Positive K, Russell’s own DJ’s, New York City’s DJ Spinbad and Toronto’s DJStarting From Scratch, and other special Just For Laughs comedians!
This sharp-tongued French kiss to our fair city features a hilarious lineup of celebrated comedians including Rachid Badouri, Caroline Rhea, Jimmy Carr, Alonzo Bodden, Mark Critch, and DeAnne Smith. The show stopping, closing night gala will feature a series of special guest presenters, each introducing a comedian, short film, or comedy segment. The presenters include Jay Baruchel, Corey Hart, Brittany LeBorgne, Max Pacioretty, Jonathan Drouin, Vanessa Grimaldi and more! And even more surprises!
What’s better than a night with the cast members of your favourite show? Nothing, guys, absolutely nothing. Make sure to catch this special night featuring Jim Carrey and cast members Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Erik Griffin, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler and Michael Angarano.
Actually, seeing a live comedy show is an awesome treat for everyone. Stand up comedians have the uncanny gift to make you feel roughly 100% better about life, and I don't know about you, but that sounds like one serious pick-me-up to me.
Thankfully, Montreal's super huge Just For Laughs comedy festival is here to bless the city with tons of stand up comedy shows again this year, for its 35th Anniversary. (Sidenote: JFL also happens to be the biggest comedy festival in the world, which is pretty amazing, tbh!)
These aren't your typical stand-up comedy shows. In true JFL fashion, their live stand up galas just so happen to have something extra special about them.
Each gala will be headlined by one big-name comedian, of course; but more than that, each one will also feature a lineup of extremely talented comics. So you're really getting a bunch of mini-shows for the price of one. That's what I call a win-win, friends.
I mean, let's be real. Anything that involves Laverne Cox, Howie Mandel, Rick Mercer, Joel McHale, and these other super talented comics seems like an awesome way to spend a summer day (or evening) to me!
Chances are, friends, it's all of the above. One thing you probably don't think of, though, is a huge open-air outdoor after party going down in the centre of all the action, by the name of Melting Pot.
Going down on July 15 - 30 at Place Des Arts (175 Saint-Catherine St), this totally free event is the official afterparty of Just For Laughs. Basically, Melting Pot is going to be turning Place Des Arts into a huge open-air nightclub, transforming the area into a haven for anyone and everyone who loves to have fun!
This must-attend event will of course include an on-site bar with cocktails and beers, as well as food from a handful of Montreal's best restaurateurs.
Other than some awesome food, drinks, and vibes, though, you can also expect unique themed events every night (like their 90s Vibes Soiree going down on), and iconic, special musical guests, like Grandmaster Flash and Fatman Scoop.
