It's Official, Montreal's Mural Fest Block Party Is Set For June On Saint-Laurent Street

Get a little silly as artists beautify the city at Mural Fest's Block Party on St. Laurent and Prince Arthur.

From 5-10pm, on Thursday, June 12th, head to the iconic Mural Fest parking lot to watch Montreal's latest and greatest murals get painted on the city's walls.

5 artists will be showing off their skills set to the beat of DJs blasting Hip Hop, Electro, Trap and EDM, while you get to enjoy it all the art, sun, and fun for free.

The fun doesn't end there Friday June 13th is Montreal's Saintwoods' day, Saturday June 14th Osheaga takes over and finally Sunday June 15th Art Battle caps the weekend off.

2021 Was Montreal's Hottest Year On Record

Here's what's in store for the first few months of 2022.

It's official — 2021 was the hottest year on record for Montreal, according to Environment Canada. It beat out the previous hottest years, 1998 and 2012, by a mean few hundredths of a degree.

This rise in temperature in Montreal is attributed to new weather patterns, causing scorching temperatures in June, August, September and October. "August and October were record-breaking months," said Environment Canada spokesperson Simon Legault.

It's looking like now is a good time to start renting a new Montreal apartment if you've been searching for a while.

According to liv.rent's December 2021 Montreal Rent Report, the average cost to rent an unfurnished one-bedroom apartment in the city has dropped by $50 since November. It's now reportedly an average of $1,236 a month to rent an unfurnished 3 1/2 in Montreal.

Coderre Wants To Cover Montreal's Décarie Expressway With A New Park

Do we all agree this is the worst highway in Montreal?

Mayoral candidate Denis Coderre is promising to partially cover Montreal's Décarie Expressway, the highway that slices through Saint-Laurent and CDN-NDG, if he wins the election.

Specifically, Coderre and his party, Ensemble Montréal, say their administration would study the possibility of turning the surface above a stretch of sunken highway between chemins Queen Mary and Côte-Sainte-Catherine into a "new green urban park" with "outdoor sports facilities, family facilities and a relaxation area with a fountain."

Of all the things you'd expect to find as you walk along Boulevard Saint-Laurent, a 7-foot-tall, gin-inspired hedge maze probably isn't one of them. But from August 6 to 8, Bombay Sapphire is building a labyrinth full of surprises in the Old Port — and, yes, that does include free gin samples for Quebecers aged 18 and up.

A Bombay spokesperson described the maze as a "large-scale [...] whimsical oasis" with walls that "cloak the discoverable experiences within."
