Régis Labeaume, mayor of Quebec City, has released a statement planning to ban Pit Bulls in Quebec City come January 1, 2017.
According to a video posted to Lebeaume's Facebook on Thursday, he made the decision with the safety of families as his main consideration.
Further according to Labeaume's video, residents of Quebec City will have until that time to, in his words, "regulate the situation, meaning getting rid of their pit bulls."
You can have a look at the full video below:
This comes after the news of Montreal potentially banning pit bulls in 2018, and recent reports of pit bulls in the news.
There is also an anti BSL (breed specific legislation) protest scheduled to take place worldwide, including in Montreal, this July.
