Jussie Smollett Kicked Off "Empire" After Faking A Racist, Homophobic Hate Crime
According to the BBC, actor Jussie Smollett has been suspended from the Fox show 'Empire' after staging a brutal hate crime.
While Smollett had initially claimed that he was the target of a racist and homophobic assault, evidence quickly indicated that he had paid his attackers.
As we reported yesterday, the Chicago police now know that the actor aimed to use the hate crime as leverage to advance his career and increase his pay.
Smollett now faces felony charges for filing a fake report to authorities.
But no degree of justice will address the irreparable harm Smollett has necessarily inflicted. His false report will discredit serious reports from other queer people, especially queer people of colour, whose claims of abuse are already the subject of undue, intense public scrutiny.
Police noted that Smollett had also tarnished the reputation of the city of Chicago in his disturbing, greedy pursuit.
More details are sure to be released in the coming days and weeks. The actor's trial is sure to be the subject of media fascination.
Already, Smollett's case is attracting national attention and prompting responses from Donald Trump and the Democratic candidates for president.
