You Can Ride The Bus For Only $1 Next Week In Laval To Help Plant Trees
  • $1 Bus Fare Day is coming back to Laval next week!
  • The STL has even fitted buses with quick-tap credit card readers to increase efficiency.
  • Plus, for every $1 ride, the city will plant a tree in Laval!

Public transit and the environment go hand in hand in a lot of ways. Buses take cars off the road and climate-conscious individuals are more inclined to take public transportation to get around their city. The Société de transport de Laval (STL) seems to have thought hard about this symbiotic relationship and for the past four years, taking an STL bus has helped plant trees all over the area.

On Friday, September 20th, the STL is inviting all Lavallois to leave their cars at home and take the bus! Why? Bus fare is only $1 all day long! And for each trip, Laval will donate funds to the Laval Environmental Society to plant a tree!

Launched four years ago, STL's $1 Bus Fare Day is an initiative that's planned to help stimulate and inspire current and potential users to take the bus and help fight the effects of climate change at a local level. The fare will apply to STL bus services only.

According to Éric Morasse, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STL, the company has seen an "up to 4% increase in our ridership" since launching the initiative.

"By offering transportation for a fraction of the price," Morasse says, "and by giving back extra money for tree planting in Laval, the STL once again stands out as a facilitator in the life of Laval residents and a leader in sustainable mobility."

The STL is a huge bus network that covers 1,400 kilometres in the Laval area. With 46 lines, it's one of the biggest and most innovative bus networks in Canada.

To facilitate boarding, the STL has installed electronic credit card readers in 12 of its bus lines! If you don't have cash, don't sweat it. Just tap and you're good to go!

For $1 Bus Fare Day, the STL is encouraging customers that find themselves on those bus lines to use their credit cards to make boarding a breeze!

So if you find yourself in Laval next Friday, leave the car at home and take the bus! Your contribution will help fight climate change at the local level.
