Lead Singer Of Hedley Accused Of Rape

Ottawa woman claims much more than "sexual misconduct" with Jacob Hoggard
Lead Singer Of Hedley Accused Of Rape

Seems this Hedley noise doesn't want to go away anytime soon.

Hedley's fan base is polarized. There have been people boycotting shows, and many fans trending #IStandWithHedley in slight of their sexual misconduct allegations.

This weekend, yet another woman has stepped forward and this time the story goes into very graphic detail - that is your warning.

Jacob Hoggard is facing extreme allegations surrounding a relationship he had with a 24-year old woman from Ottawa.

The relationship began in the fall of 2016 - remember when the guys claimed to have acted in "rockstar" ways in their youth? Well, 2016 wasn't so long ago.

She imagined a fairy tale scenario with a rockstar, what she got instead were the pain, shame, and recurring nightmares.

A surprise swipe right on Tinder in Ottawa, that in turn sparked a flirtatious Snapchar relationship culminated 2 weeks later in a Toronto hotel room, and the 24-year old claims the Hedley frontman raped her and sent off crying uncontrollably.

Hoggard denies her story and claims they had consensual sex in his hotel room.

Amidst all the sexual misconduct allegations towards Hedley, and there are plenty of them from a wide range woman, this woman claims what Hoggard had done was more than sexual misconduct.

She says it was sexual assault. Period.

Like most women in these situations, however, she did not file a police complaint and did not testify to her story in court.

Jacob Hoggard's lawyer issued a statement on behalf of the singer, saying he is very sorry the woman is upset but remains adamant that they had a mutual plan to get together and hook up - which is exactly what they did.

"At no time did Jacob act badly or do anything without [her] consent," the statement says.

The definition of "consent" from Jacob Hoggard is being disputed by the accuser.

"Even if I agreed to have sex before I got there doesn't mean when I'm there he can do whatever he wants to me," she said. "I feel up until the moment you're about to have sex with someone, you're allowed to say no and change your mind."

The woman, who was an Algonquin College student at the time she "met" Hoggard online, was a volunteer at WE Day in Ottawa. Jacob Hoggard was a "WE Day ambassador" and performed at the event. It was during this event the two began their social media flirting.

Of course, like any one of us, sexual interest from a celebrity would be flattering and exciting.

Fast forward 2 weeks through continued flirting and plans made to hook-up, Jacob Hoggard purchased the Ottawa local a round-trip train ticket to catch him while he was in Toronto on Nov. 22, 2016. She claims that "hooking up" with Hoggard was anticipated but not in the way it all happened. She expected it to be consensual.

"Of course, I expected sex. I wasn't going to Toronto to watch TV with someone I barely know. I'm not naive — but he completely crossed the line."

When she first arrived at the Thompson Hotel, she texted Hoggard and said the singer came down to collect his visitor. Once she stepped foot into his room, she claims Hoggard pushed her up against the wall and started forcibly kissing her.

Things calmed down for a moment until a hotel employee came by to let Jacob know that his "regular" room was ready.

"When he got to the next room, that's when he acted like a completely different person," she said.

She claims that Jacob Hoggard took away her cellphone so she couldn't take any photos. She details the second room with a large TV, balcony and one king-sized bed with a big mirror placed over the headboard. She claimed to have been watching the movie playing on the TV for about 10 minutes before Hoggard flipped her to her stomach and pinned her down.

This is where the details recounted by the accuser get tough to read.

Her accusations say that Hoggard slapped her, spat on her and forced anal sex on her - something that she had never done. She claims that he ignored her cries to stop. He ignored her tears, called her a "dirty little pig", a "good girl" and that Hoggard did not wear a condom

"I was clear that I was not interested in it, and I was so uncomfortable, and I started crying, and he just kept telling me that I was being a good girl and petting my head."

"I can still to this day picture his face and how scary he looked and how scared I was."

"He was choking me, and my face went so red" - she says recalling the sight of herself she could see in the mirror over the bed.

At one point through all of this, she claims Jacob Hoggard pulled her into the bathroom asking several times if he could pee on her, and vice versa.

She alleges that this was the only time he asked for consent, and he backed off when telling him "No, that's disgusting."

CBC has corroborated parts of the young woman's version of events by speaking with four of her friends, including a woman whom she called after leaving the hotel.

"Right after it happened, I didn't even know if it was rape or sexual assault — because I felt I had to, [that] I owed it to him because he brought me there. I felt it was my fault because I went there."

After the shock of the experience had worn off, she had sent Jacob a text accusing him of rape - to which his response was not to contact him again and blocked her number.

She was examined by a doctor and ordered a series of tests for STD's at the College Medical Clinic near her school. She has shown a copy of her medical record, dated Nov. 28, 2016, to CBC when telling her story.

The medical record from the doctor notes her claim of sexual assault.

Now, the young woman is haunted by the memories of her time with Hedley frontman, Jacob Hoggard.

"It makes me angry, and it makes me sick to my stomach because his voice is what I hear in my nightmares."

An excerpt shared with CBC from her journal recounting the alleged assault reads:

"I feel used. Disgusting. Degraded. I was forced to do things I never have. I never would … Because of who he is, I trusted him. I didn't think he would hurt me."

"He knows I said no. I said stop."

In light of all the news around Hedley's accused sexual misconduct, this story and extreme details are very sobering.

Some readers and fans of the group have different claims and accusations - stating this woman who shared her story with CBC is actively participating in a smear campaign against Hoggard and his band Hedley.

One Hedley supported had sent the following statements via email to FYI Music News.

“She also seems to be creating multiple identities all seemingly victims of Hedley’s band members and claiming she has been a victim of sexual assaults. If you dig deep into the internet, you can find multiple stories about ‘B’ creating a fund me page to profit off [Corporal] Nathan Cirillo's death, or attacking or harassing various celebrities about various alleged accusations that have been proved untrue.

“And lastly, the CBC article that was published by a journalist in Ottawa who seems to be in touch with ‘B’ as well. Her name is Judy Trinh.

“'B' has been mentioning on twitter for days knowing about this coming out. It is too much [of a] coincidence. I do not doubt of Ms. Judy Trinh’s professionalism. I believe she has been played like a lot of people by one person.

This story is developing, and I am sure it will not die off anytime soon.
