Every year I fall a little bit more in live with the vibrant and relaxed borough that is Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

Now that I consider myself a hochelag' girl, I wanted to share with you the 12 reasons I plan on spending my next few years in this underrated part of the city.

1. It's a village, literally

Apart from the fact that is was an Iroquoian village back in the 16th century, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve really has a community feeling. Some of its older members have never seen the Mont-Royal, but that only tells you how they don't want to leave their beloved neighbourhood. You will rapidly find yourself feeling part of this community since HOMA people are naturally  and genuinely warm.

2.Rue de la Poésie

Located in the heart of HOMA, la rue de la poésie is a small street where you can walk and read poems by local poets. The street is full of flowers and big trees so you can sit on chairs and read one of the books in the "take one bring one" box.

3.La Maison de la Culture

Next to the rue de la poésie, La Maison de la Culture is a spot where they host movie nights, music and dance shows all for a ridiculous price. You can also play or hear people playing on the public pianos which is always lovely cute.

4.Parc Maisonneuve

Whether you go  for a run with your BFF, for a picnic with you S/O or to be alone with your thoughts, the park is the perfect spot for anyone who needs to be surrounded by trees and green grass. From my experience, there is almost no situation a long walk in this Parc with good music in my earbuds cannot improve.

5. Marché Maisonneuve

Call me romantic, but I think there is something cute with doing 5 different places for your groceries. The Marché Maisonneuve has everything you need from fruits and veggies to cheese and bread all in different places but under the same roof. It's the perfect spot to buy everything you need for your picnic at the Maisonneuve park.

6. Jardin Botanique

When you live in Hochelag', you probably are at a walking distance from the Jardin, which is similar to being at a walking distance from heaven. Who cannot appreciate an afternoon under the sun, sipping on iced coffee surrounded by flowers and trees. And if that does not convince you, there is also a fox family living there.

7.Architecture

Walking in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is like walking through francophone Montreal history. Recycled factories to beautiful churches to colourful houses, HOMA has it all.

8. It has the best coffee

Hoche Café is my one true love when it comes to coffee. I've tried to find a similar or better espresso, but nothing could even compare. Aside from making the best espressos, the staff is welcoming. They also serve  homemade baked good and sandwiches and they have a fair number of vegan and gluten-free options

9. Happy hippie vibe

Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is full of cool hippies stores where they sell organic, zero waste and vegan foods as well as environment friendly products. When living in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, it becomes accessible and easy to be your greener self. No excuses now.

10. Les Jardineries

Located on the Esplanade of the Olympic Stadium, this rooftop garden is used for music performances, open mic nights, yoga meetups, classes and to grab a drink. Follow them on Facebook to know what they are up to because they have so many things planned this month and it will simply be amazing.
