Back before bros and biddies started grinding on the dance floor, ladies and gents got jiggy with swing dance, a much classier, energetic, and way more entertaining form of dance from the 1920s to 1950s. Bring some jazz back to Montreal, St. Laurent will host a outdoor swing dancing festival, entirely for free!
Cat's Corner, the St. Laurent jazz-dance studio, is taking to the streets on Sunday, August 24th and bringing the energy of swing to all of Montreal to enjoy. Live bands and DJs will bring the tunes, and all you gotta do is rock out in your dancing shoes to the rhythms of the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, with some modern flair mixed in for good measure.
Only a small fraction of y'all probably know how to legit swing dance, but that's NBD. Cat's Corner is a dance studio, and with all the instructors present, we're sure they'd give you a few pointers on the Lindy hop and the basics of swing. Or you could just dance your face off and have fun with it, like we probably will.
St. Laurent's free street swing dance festival will be busting moves on Sunday, August 24th from 2pm-5pm, just outside the Cat's Corner studio on St. Lo above Sherbrooke (map). Donations are suggested for the band, but otherwise look forward to a full afternoon of free dancing and music.
