After you learn about him you will join the die hard worldwide fan base saying; "J Dilla Changed My Life" and you will be eager to be part of the celebration and tribute Montreal Loves Dilla! Presented by De La Rap & J Dilla Foundation the event will be taking place on February 7th 2015 at Inspecteur Épingle. Local DJ's; DJ Ephiks, Toast Dawg, Dr.Mad, DJ Manzo & Sev Dee will be playing Dilla sounds all night long. The party will be hosted by J Dilla's younger brother Illa J, who happens to be based in Montreal.
J Dilla, also known as Jay Dee, was and still is one of the most influential music producers. He produced for artists and big acts such as; Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Common, A Tribe Called Quest and many more. Find out more about his life, here.
Music icons like Kanye West, Pharell Williams, Dr.Dre and Montreal hottest artists like Kaytranada, Shash'U, High Klassified and Nick Wisdom have all expressed the influence the hip hop legend has had on them. Nick Wisdom, who is currently working with J Dilla's brother Illa J, even has a J Dilla tattoo on his forearm. As I like to say, J Dilla is your favourite producer's favourite producer and long story short: Montreal Loves Dilla!

In February 2006, due to Lupus complications, James Dewitt Yancey "aka" J Dilla passed away. He left behind a mourning family, a very sad music community and an incredible body of work including; beats, tracks, vocals and a ginormous record collection.
Since then, he has been one of the most celebrated artists and tributes are organized worldwide, every year. Like many other cities, Montreal Loves Dilla! DJ Ephiks and Toast Dawg along with Sev Dee and Manzo, as well as Simahlak & Scott C, have organized tribute events in Montreal since his passing. What makes this year's tribute so special? This year is the first time the J Dilla Foundation and a family member will celebrate with us in Montreal!
J Dilla worked on his album "Donuts" while he was hospitalized. The album was released on his birthday and three days before his passing, February 7th 2006. For the tribute there will be free doughnuts. Don't miss out on a wonderful night and celebration on the 7th. Event souvenir T-shirts will be for sale.
