Snow is bad enough to deal with in the winter, then you have all of the city's snow removal workers and equipment you need to be wary of, which can add up to a lot of stress for a car-owner. This winter, your smartphone will tell you where snow removal workers will be headed, thanks to the newly launched Info-Neige app, reports La Presse.
Available for iPhone and Androids, Info-Neige will link up with the City of Montreal's current snow removal information system and give almost real-time details on where a plow or snow blower is headed or currently working. Unfortunately, none of the equipment will be outfitted with GPS trackers (hence the "almost" real-time) 'til next year, so the app will give a general time-frame rather than a to-the-minute prediction of when snow removal will begin/finish.
Info-Neige will be using a colour-coded map to let you know the status of snow removal in the boroughs included within the app's first season out. Here's how it'll basically work:
- Blue = a snow removal plan on that street is in the works
- Orange = the exact areas where the snow will be plowed
- Red = snow removal in progress, no-parking zone
- Green = the street is plowed and you're good to go
One pretty cool feature of the app is the ability to register your street, which will then give you an alert/push notification if there's any incoming snow removal work headed to you.
Citizens of only five of the city's 19 boroughs will only be able to look up snow removal details on Info-Neige, with the rest of the city having to go to the City of Montreal's website for similar info. Below are the five boroughs:
According to La Presse, the app has been submitted to the iTunes app store and Google Play, and is now pending approval.
