Christmas may seem like a totally honest and open to everyone about everything kind of holiday (not like that shady mother Halloween) but you'd be wrong, even Xmas has some skeletons in the closet. Okay, maybe not "skeletons," more like adorable anecdotes and long-lost traditions, all of which you can discover during Old Montreal's Christmas Secrets tour.
Part of the Montreal En Fete/Merry Montreal holiday celebrations, "Christmas Secrets of Old Montreal" is a walking tour from Square Victoria to Bonsecours market, led by a professional guide who will recount tales of Christmases past and the many old-school traditions from scores of years ago that we still partake in today. A solid festive event for families or with your SO.
Even if learning about Xmas history isn't really your cup of Joe, the tour will still be quite enjoyable, as you will walk through all of the major festive hot-spots of Old Montreal, including Place d’Armes, the Notre-Dame Basilica, and Place Jacques-Cartier, all of which will be decked out in full Xmas gear. Be sure to wear an ugly holiday sweater so you fit in.
The Christmas Secrets of Old Montreal walking tour will be held every Saturday from December 6th to the 27th, with tours in English (6pm) and in French (4pm). Learn more about the tour and get tickets by heading to the official event listing here.
