Mount Royal's chalet has been standing tall above the mountain since 1932, and in 2015 the space may be getting a brand new addition. According to 24h Montreal, the City of Montreal is now looking into installing a cafe within the Mount Royal chalet next year.
Réal Ménard, head of large parks for Montreal's executive committee, has said that the city plans to pay $300, 000 for a new cafe in the chalet. How the cafe will operate remains to be seen, with the logistics currently being studied and analyzed. A partnership with a community group like Les amis de la montagne to run the cafe is a potentiality.
The Mount Royal cafe is but one project in a series planned to improve Mount Royal park, Réal Ménard pointed out to 24h. Possible improvements to the site include improving the mountain's signage for its paths to various sites, and the creation of a "River to Mountain" path reaching fro Old Montreal's Musée Pointe-à-Callière to the base of the mountain.
