Yoga and surfing aren't the unlikeliest of pairs, so it's no surprise the two have been fused. Both involve balance, focus, and specific movements. A glaring difference is that yoga is traditionally done on land while surfing must always be on waves. SUP Yoga by Montreal's KSF, or surf yoga as we're calling it, bridges the territorial differences by hosting yoga classes on the water, with a floating board as your yoga mat.
SUP Yoga doesn't actually use a surf board, opting out for a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) that acts as a better substitute yoga mat. A tad more difficult than on land, SUP Yoga forces your body to use more of your body's muscles to stabilize yourself on lightly moving water, getting you a more toned body in the process.
The beauty of nature is inherently entwined into SUP Yoga classes, which in itself is a reason to get out of the yoga studio. Sessions are held at the Pavillon des Activités Nautiques in Parc Jean-Drapeau where you can imbue the serenity and calming effects of the water into your own yoga-focus.
All classes include any needed equipment, so no need to bring along your own SUP board, paddle, or life jacket. Just bring yourself, ready to do some surf-style yoga.
