If you know me at all, then you know that I'm totally obsessed with grilled cheese. It's my go-to meal (snack? gooey sandwich of happiness?), and at this point, I'd like to believe that I have a pretty good sense of what makes an awesome grilled cheese.
Although I've had some seriously delicious ones in the past, something I tried this past week just might put all those other ones to shame.
Les Torchés Taverne (74 Avenue du Mont-Royal E), which offers a super fun ambiance, a varied menu featuring high-quality and incredibly tasty modernized pub food, and some seriously, seriously good drinks, also happens to have made one seriously delicious grilled cheese.
Called the Tiers De Verge, this is Les Torchés Taverne's creation for Montreal's Grilled Cheese Festival - and if you're a fan of grilled cheese, trust, you're going to straight-up fall in love with it.
But also, if you're a fan of homemade bread, bacon, pulled pork, or just happiness in general, then this sandwich will become your new BFF. Hands down.
Stuffed with two different types of cheese, one thick, huge slab of bacon, and all the pulled pork you can manage, the Tiers De Verge is one impressive sandwich. The slightly smoky bacon, the tangy pulled pork, the cheeses - every taste and texture works super well together, and makes for a grilled cheese experience unlike any other.
But what sticks out the most? The bread.
Thick, crusty, buttery, and incredibly flavourful homemade bread serves as a perfect, crispy bed to Les Torchés Taverne's fresh and quality ingredients.
I could seriously go on to describe this sandwich forever, but, like I said, it's an experience - and one that you've just got to live for yourself.
What I will say, though, is that this grilled cheese is huge. About a foot long, and served on a wooden board, it's big enough to split with a friend... Although, TBH, you're not going to want to share.
