Get ready for a whole mess of coloured spiky hair, ninja school girls, and lord knows what else, as anime fans congregate (and get suited for some cosplay) at Montreal's premiere anime convention Otakuthon. Starting next weekend (Friday-Sunday) Otakuthon will be the place to go for any and all anime fans, videogame enthusiasts, or those who just want to check out some crazy costumes.
Otakuthon 2014 has an event for nearly every strain of the anime-lovers community, and some for those who aren't avid anime junkies. There will be a slew of Cosplay events, a room dedicated to video gaming (BYOController is recommended), dance parties, panels and workshops, and mini-conventions for particular types of anime. The list goes on and on.
For the first time, Otakuthon will host the World Cosplay Summit contest, which is also the first time the event has gone down in Canada. The World Cosplay Summit will occur on the first day/Friday of Otakuthon, with the two finalist winning a trip to Japan to represent Canada in the official World Cosplay Summit, so bring your A game anime fans.
Pre-registration for Otakuthon is already going on, and if you plan on going all three days, you'd best order your tickets now. You can pay cash at the door, but it's $30 for a day vs. $50 for all three right now. You do the math.
Otakuthon begins Friday, August 22nd and runs 'til Sunday, August 24th at Palais de Congres. For a full rundown on the schedule, major events, and admission, head over to the official website.
