Taking A Break From Your Boyfriend May Be The Best Thing For Your Relationship
12 things every girl needs to consider before making the decision.
Love and couples nearly always invade Montreal at this time of the year. Well, I have a little wake up call for those who have been in a long relationship... Sometimes you need a break! I'm not saying that you have to take a break in a relationship to make it work, but I am saying that depending on the people, sometimes a break is what you guys need.
Based on personal experience and also on observation of friends and family, I can honestly say that after dating by current boyfriend for over 3 years, a break at our 2 years mark was something that only made us stronger in the long run. I came to this realization in college when I was trying to find myself. It lasted a month and afterwards our relationship only got better.
So, if you are having some personal issues with yourself that you need to take care of, or if you are just constantly fighting, a break may be the best things for you and below are some reasons why. I'm not saying that you need to take a 4 month break, it can even be just a week! I suggest making it clear with your significant other and communicating with them in the proper way, aka face to face. However, even though a break is not a breakup, it can lead to one.
A Break Is A Good Time To Focus On Yourself
A break is not a time where you should willow and cry over what is going on in your life. Instead, a break is a time where you should be focusing on yourself. You should be focusing on the things you need and want in life. You should be able to take care of yourself before trying to help take care of someone else. By focusing on yourself, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and you will be able to get things done.
A Break Is A Good Time To Find Yourself
By focusing on yourself, you also get to find yourself. You may believe that a break is for you guys to see other people but really it's about finding yourself. A break is a time where you need to reconnect with who you are as an individual rather than in a relationship. I found this the most helpful and useful part of my break. By finding yourself, you are able to then come to the conclusion on how you and your partner relate and if you really want to be with them.
A Break Is A Good Time To Focus On School
Another great reason for a break is school. If you are anything like me and you completely stress out over school, then a break may be a good idea. A relationship poses extra stress on you that you don't really need especially during school. So focus on those good grades and then your relationship.
A Break Is A Good Time To Spend More Time With Your Family And Friends
A relationship does take a huge chunk of time out of your life so, a break is a nice time to spend some of that quality time with your family and friends. Not only can you enjoy some great time with the most important people in your life but you can also hear what they have to say about your situation and perhaps take some of their advice.
A Break Is A Good Time To Realize How Much Your Significant Other Means To You
By going on a break with your significant other, I can honestly say that you will realize just how much you miss them. By creating distance with someone you love, you will realize just how much they mean to you. This is a good sign that you still want to be involved in your relationship.
A Break Is A Good Time To Release Stress
If you have just been under a lot of pressure lately in your life and especially with regards to your relationship, then a break is a great place to start releasing some stress. It gives you some freedom to do you and to put yourself first. That may sound selfish but you can't expect to try and deal with someone else's problems when you have unresolved ones of your own. So sit back with a mojito and relax a bit by yourself.
A Break Is A Good Time To Re-evaluate Your Compatibility
If you have been questioning your compatibility with your loved one, then a break is a good place to test that out. I can almost guarantee you that if you have been in a long relationship for over 2 years or since you were younger, that you aren't the same people that you use to be. So, a break is a good place to be if you want to re-evaluate your compatibility with that special someone.
A Break Is A Good Time To Find Out What You Both Want In Life
If your relationship has made it's way to being super serious, a break might be a good time to see if you and that special someone are on the same page. Once you get to a certain point in your relationship, it's good to see if you both want the same things in the near future and a break is a good place to see what you want in life.
A Break Is A Good Time To Find Your Priorities
Since you will be able to focus on yourself during a break, you will learn what your priorities are. Your priorities may not be the same as your partner and it's better to find out now than later. It may be sad but if you and your special someone don't have the same priorities, that you may not be right for one another.
A Break Is A Good Time To Find Out If It's Love
When dating someone for a long serious time, sometimes we forget if it's actually love or if it just comes down to the physical aspects or even activities. If you don't miss your partner, but you miss the sex or you miss going out to fin events, then it may not be love anymore. Sometimes love gets pushed aside or our vision of it is clouded but that doesn't mean that it completely disappeared. A break is a good time to find that love again.
A Break Is A Good Time To See If It Should Be A Breakup
It is heartbreaking to say, but sometimes a break is a good time to see if it should actually be a breakup. In my case, this is what happened between me and my current boyfriend. We realized that the break needed to become a break up. It was a hard time were we saw other people but after 3-4 months we looked at who we've became and decided to give it a second chance. I can now say that we are stronger than ever. So, sometimes a break will lead to a breakup but that doesn't mean that there is zero future for you two. But honestly, sometimes a break should become a break up and it should stay that way.
A Break Is A Good Time To Rekindle The Spark
Sometimes a break may just be what you need to get the spark back. Taking a break might let you know how much you want to be with your partner. Once that spark is back on fire, you will feel like new again! Sometimes a break is just what you need to make your relationship stronger. A break IS NOT a breakup so don't panic. I strongly recommend making sure that you and your special someone are on the same page. A break can be a time where you just don't see each other and give each other space, but you need to make that clear. In addition, it is best to make it clear if you and your partner are comfortable if you talk to other people and so on. Just make sure your break is not a misunderstood breakup!
