Montreal is one of the largest student cities in Canada. With a population of over 170,000 students, this city is literally swarming with people on the path for higher learning. And where there are students, sex will inevitably follow. Montreal is on another level when it comes to dating. And where is a better place to meet someone than at school? So if you’re interested in diving in to student dating, here is what to expect when scouting the campus grounds.

Concordia

Age: 18 – 28

Lives: Lower Plateau

Occupation: He’ll work anywhere he doesn’t have to speak French.

Style: Homeless chic.

What to expect: Concordia dudes like a partner with style. These guys are a generally creative and political bunch. They spend most of their day eating off their hangovers and riding bikes in the snow.

Where to find them: They’re up for a party from Monday to Sunday. Concordia dudes are to be found with big pints and good conversation. Either at Bifteck playing pool or at Cock and Bull finishing off one of their four-liter pitchers and singing along to the live music.

JMSB

Age: 20 – 30

Lives: Downtown, Westmount, Atwater.

Occupation: Intern at some up and coming business.

Style: Dress for success.

What to expect: They drink their coffee black. Their shirts are pressed and crisp. They get to class five minutes late and leave five minutes early. Their phone is always buzzing. They need a go-getter but someone who can also bring them back down to earth at the end of the day.

Where to find them: During the day, they’re probably in an economics class, 50% listening, 50% checking social media. You can spot them at PromoX's weekly 5@8, in a professor's office trying to score some tips for their next midterm or trading books/ notes via the CASAJMSB Facebook page.

U de M

Age: 18 – 25

Lives: Suburbs West Island or Laval, probably with his parents.

Occupation: Getting promoted at a high school retail job.

Style: A backwards hat goes with everything, right?

What to expect: If you’re looking for a true blue francophone then the Universite de Montreal is the place for you. These boys eat, sleep and breathe the Montreal life style. Even though he's a gym rat, he probably smokes like a chimney, and if he's trying to quit then that means he smokes e-cigs. Lastly, if he has a car, it will be a NICE car, to accommodate commuting to the suburbs.

Where to find them: During the day, he's probably either working out or playing video games. In the evening, he'll be watching a Habs game with his friends then go wild at one of U de M’s many student events.

McGill

Age: 18-25

Lives: McGill Ghetto.

Occupation: Student by day, professional partier by night.

Style: Put together. Except during exams, then it's sweat pants all day, every day.

What to expect: These gents have both brains and beauty. They work hard and play hard. Something in their genetic make-up allows them to party it up every weekend, and still ace any exam that is thrown at them.

Where to find them: During the week, they generally spend their days and nights cozied up with a textbook in McLennan. However by Friday, they’re ready and rearing at someplace crowded like Muzique, Tokyo or Café Campus.

UQAM

Age: 20-25

Lives: Plateau.

Occupation: Unemployed Activist.

Style: Always has a joint behind his ear.

What to expect: A philosophical pothead. Probably an Arts and Science major who doesn’t go to most of his classes in hopes to ‘stick it to the man’. He’ll probably suggest a date at Café Myriad, or somewhere else with organic muffins and fair-trade coffee.

Where to find them: During the day you’ll find them in a cloud of smoke with a couple friend discussing student protest ideas. At night, these dudes will congregate on Saint Denis at Saint Sulpice.

Polytechnique

Age: 20– 30

Lives: Mile End, Outremont

Occupation: Works at the Apple Genius Bar

Style: Living in comfort.

What to Expect: These men come from a pretty laid back crop. They’re smart and involved in the school’s tight knit community. They are probably in one of Poly’s many organizations, whether it is beer brewing or small scale rockets. They need a partner who is chilled yet stimulating. High-maintenance relationships are not their deal.

Where to find them: They’ll spend a night beginning with a Habs game and end it at some low-key trendy bar like La Distillerie or at a student event such as their annual winter beach party. In the mornings you’ll find them buying fresh bagels on Saint Laurent, in hung-over Franglish.
