5 Types Of Montrealers You Will Only Date In The Fall

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Fall has always been synonymous with change. Unhappy with your relationship? End it. Don't enjoy what you're studying in school? Change it. Don't like anything in your closet? Buy all the sweaters online.

You think summer is a great time to date and be single in Montreal? Think again.

Fall is actually prime time. This city is home to four major universities and every September thousands of new faces flock to Montreal to start their new life.

Combined with the fact that it's breakup season and the dreaded arctic winter is around the corner, everyone is scrambling around desperately looking to cling to summer while trying to find the perfect Netflix partner in crime for winter. In the end, September to December is probably the sauciest time to be single in the city.

That said, if you're single and dating this fall in Montreal, there are certain characters you will likely come across. Who will you meet this fall?

1. The Froshie

You'll probably meet them on an app. This person is totally new to the city, and as a result, is in a full-blown honeymoon phase with Montreal. Bursting with the energy of a school child who just binged on a box of candies, they want to visit all the landmarks – ASAP. The Saint-Joseph Oratory, Mont-Royal, The Museum of Fine Arts, the list goes on. This person is particularly fun to date in the fall as they will be your partner in crime for endless excursions and activities. Their infectious energy will make the native Montrealer fall in love with the city all over again.

2. The one who's on the rebound

You will probably find this guy (or gal) doing regular rounds up and down lower Saint-Laurent on Friday and Saturday night with military-like precision and dedication. After all, fall is a time for change, and consequently also known as breakup season. The person who is on the fall rebound is looking to date short-term while the weather is chilly and romantic, but be warned, you may not make it until Christmas.

3. The one who's looking for winter bae

There's a reason why fall is also dubbed "cuffing season." Everyone is looking for someone special enough to cuddle up against and hibernate with through the long cold winter. It's not a heartless strategy, it's human. The person who is looking for Netflix bae will pull out all the stops to make sure it's OBVIOUS that they want to spend winter with you. Text responses will be prompt, cute fall activities will be planned, there is no room for second-guessing. Maybe this is the beginning of something serious?

4. The one who can't let go of summer

Even though it's hovering around 10 degrees and everyone around them is bundled up in sweaters and buried in 10-page mid-term papers, the one who can't let go of summer is still trying to make the party happen. Their unwavering enthusiasm is somehow endearing, and before you know it, you might find yourself throwing your texts books aside for one last hoorah on Saint Laurent just to be by their side.

5. The Montreal Native

Montreal is an international city. Born and raised Montrealers are sometimes hard to come by, especially if you're only hanging with the people you meet in school. Although it's rarely seen, a native Montrealer dating a non-Montrealer is actually the perfect match. At times, Montrealers can get a little jaded about the city, and the energy and enthusiasm newbie Montrealers will make for an exciting fall full of fun local activities.
