I have some great news for all you red wine lovers out there. There has been endless research and studies over the past few years suggesting that red wine actually is healthy for us. Well now a scientific study has officially revealed that one glass of wine a day is the same as working out for a hour in the gym!

Not only is this supported by a highly reputed study but one produced by one of our very own Universities here in Canada. Specifically the University of Alberta has found that the health benefits in resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, are similar to those we get from exercise.

This is great news and for those of us that are just not physically able to workout. As resveratrol was seen to improve physical performance, heart function and muscle strength in the same way as they’re improved after a gym session. The published article goes into depth about their findings.

Published research has previously linked red wine to a number of things such as those who drink a glass of red wine a day are less likely to develop dementia or cancer, that it’s good for your heart, anti-ageing and can regulate blood sugar.

Now let's be very clear about one thing even though being linked to more and more positive things in health, it is all about moderation, it only applies to red wine, and the research to date was only carried out on rats and not humans.

However if you are wanting to up your intake of resveratrol. Try blueberries, peanut butter, red grapes and dark chocolate. Remember, a balanced diet is everything.
