So apparently there is scientific reason behind why this month has been particularly brutal in terms of your sleeping patterns and mood. Blame it all on solar flares.

Scientist believe that disruptions in solar activity, such as the massive solar storm we experienced in mid-March, disrupts our circadian rhythms, and more specifically the pineal gland responsible for producing melatonin, the brain's built in "downer" that helps us sleep. The rise in electromagnetic activity causes the pineal gland to produce excess melatonin which can result in a whole shopping list of symptoms including headaches, heart palpitations, mood swings, anxiety, jitters, irritability, nausea and exhaustion, says psychiatrist Kelly Posner of Columbia University.

Studies done by Professor Raymond Wheeler of the University of Kansas, building off Russian scientist Alexander Chizhevsky's work, showed a direct correlation between solar storms and an increase in chaotic and erratic behaviors as well. Wheeler looked at violence during 1913, measuring time and severity between battles, and found that there was a rise in human unrest, uprisings, rebellions, revolutions, and wars between nations when there were these kinds of peaks in Sun cycles.

The ongoing storm can have other global impacts such as overloading power-grids, communication outages and satellite damage, and extra beautiful auroras.

All this to say that solar flares can mess you up, making you feel extra tired, extra cranky, and generally making everyday feel like a bad case of the Mondays. This may also help explain the higher intensity of protesting as of late.
