Warning: Lyme Disease From Ticks On The Rise In Canada

Canadian health officials are beginning the discussion and warnings for citizens about the surge of Tick born diseases, the most common of which is Lyme disease.

With the change in our climate, the tick population is undoubtedly on the rise in Canada... and with one tick comes an averaged 100-day lifespan, and nearly 50 eggs daily.

Here are some symptoms to watch for:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Skin Rash
  • Headaches

If left untreated it can cause extreme fatigue, irregular heart palpitations and nervous system disorders

These are things to watch out for if you do outdoor activities, especially in grassier areas. Wear pants and long-sleeved shirts this spring, tuck pants into your socks and tote around the right insect repellent.

If a tick is spotted on your body, remove it immediately.

Tweezers are your best bet here,  but be careful not to squeeze the little blood sucket too hard as to not release more bacteria into your body. Wash the area thoroughly with an anti-bacterial soap immediately after.

The same holds true for your pets - and keep in mind our animal family is at higher risk.
